The Committee for Hispanic Children & Families (CHCF) supports the Mayor’s difficult decision to close all public schools. We believe this is the right decision as the City attempts to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus. However, we understand this unprecedented step puts families from the communities which CHCF and other non-profits serve—many of whom are already struggling to get by—at risk of not having adequate child care, food, and healthcare services necessary to make it through this time of crisis.

CHCF stands ready to partner with City, State, and Federal authorities to ensure a plan is in place to mitigate any adverse impact this difficult school closing decision will have on our communities. Additionally, out of an abundance of caution, CHCF is moving to a work from home model to ensure the health and safety of our staff as we endeavor to continue to serve our children, youth, and families. Please stay tuned for updates as we continue to assess the situation and tailor our services model as needed.
