New York, NY September 9, 2021—The Committee for Hispanic Children & Families joins with the Nazario family in mourning the passing of Jose Nazario, one of the Co-Founders of our organization. Jose was a gentle giant who dedicated his life to public service and championed issues on behalf of the most vulnerable amongst us. Throughout his adult life, Jose fought to bring to light the inequities in the systems that continue to marginalize children and families of color. He was passionate about the much-needed restructuring of the foster care system, the insufficient funding for early education, the need for more after school opportunities, as well as the unfair immigration and criminal-justice systems.

“I am proud to have known Jose,” commented Ramon Peguero, Esq., the President and CEO of CHCF. “As a staunch supporter of the communities we work in, his voice was respected and made a difference. Our condolences go out to the family. He has left a lasting legacy for all to strive to follow.”
