On October 5, 2017, Unilever in partnership with The Committee for Hispanic Children Families, Inc. (CHCF) celebrated the International Dove Day with the after-school program at PS/MS 279.

Dove Self-Esteem Expert, Dre Brown presented the “Confident Me” curriculum. 40 CHCF SONYC students participated in a variety of activities with the goal of developing strategies of resistance towards appearance comparison.

The students had the opportunity to express themselves regarding media portrayal of beauty. They also discussed how images in social media are often manipulations of the truth, in addition to talking about the challenging existing pressures from everyday social ideals, and how to build body confidence.

At the end of the presentation, students set their personal goals and their commitment to send and share positive messages through media and within their daily social engagements. It was clear to see that Dove’s key message, “let’s inspire the next generation to reach their full potential,” was truly achieved. As students set their personal goals and their commitment to send and share positive messages through media and within their daily social engagements.
