Child Care Provider Training

Although high-quality child care might serve as an important early intervention for children living in poverty, poor children tend to receive poor-quality child care.

Poor Latino neighborhoods have the greatest demand for childcare. At 17%, New York was found to have the highest percentage of low-income children in family child care (care provided by a non-relative in his or her home).(1) This type of care presents risks, since many home-based providers are not registered or regulated by state or city agencies.

CHCF is committed to promoting competent, quality child care and job development by providing training in Spanish and assisting Latina caregivers to become registered Family Day Care (FDC) providers in order to increase the number of quality caregivers and to promote licensing and regulation. Our Child Care Resource and Referral Program provides:

  • State-mandated pre-registration training for individuals interested in becoming registered family day care providers.
  • 30-hour training class for registered providers.
  • Ongoing technical assistance to family daycare providers.
  • A network of 100 family daycare providers offering general support, as well as early childhood education.
  • Newsletters providing helpful tips and educational information.
