CHCF Deplores Racist and Offensive "Contest" The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc. (CHCF) expresses its outrage against the offensive and racist “contest” promoted by Ohio radio station WTVN, in which the “winner” received a trip to Arizona “to spend a weekend chasing aliens and spending cash in the desert.” This is not a joke and must be taken very seriously. CHCF demands that WTVN and its parent company, Clear Channel, apologize for this racist, xenophobic and irresponsible “contest” in a clear and unambiguous statement. CHCF strongly opposes the SB 1070 legislation in Arizona. We believe that it is discriminatory and offensive to Latinos, as well as dangerous. It invites racial profiling, and there is potential for violence. The air waves belong to the public, and FCC must ensure that they are not used inappropriately to promote discrimination, segregation, and hate. |
