Since 1982, CHCF (The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc.) has been dedicated to combining education and advocacy to expand opportunities for children and families, and strengthen the voice of the Latino community. Believing that the most effective way to support Latino families is by building upon their existing strengths and fostering self-sufficiency, CHCF provides a number of programs and services to the community through Youth Development programs and an Early Care & Education Institute.

Our policy work, grounded in our direct services, amplifies the voice of our communities on the local, state, and national policy levels around issues of child welfare, early care, education, juvenile justice, and the well-being of Latino children. Through our programs and policy work, CHCF is creating a shared prosperity for all Americans.

CHCF After-school Program at PS-MS 279 Holiday Pajama Party Our After-school Program at PS/MS 279 hosted a special holiday activity for its first and second grade students on December 19, 2012.  Berenice Gartner of Univision 41's "A tu lado" joined the students for a pajama party to read "Auntie Claus." Cash Cards for Hurricane Sandy Victims $600 Cash Cards for Hurricane Sandy Victims

NYS Senator Eric Adams, NYC Comptroller John Liu, and Brooklyn elected officials, in conjunction with the Tzu Chi Foundation, will distribute $10 million in the form of $600 cash cards to New Yorkers who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.

To qualify, you must have lived in the hurricane impacted area.  More information

Elba Montalvo to Receive Care for Kids Distinguished Community Service Award

In recognition of her unrelenting dedication to improving the lives of children and families, particularly those in the Latino community, Elba Montalvo, President/CEO of The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, has been selected by the 1199 SEIU Child Care Corporation to receive the Care for Kids Distinguished Community Service Award during their Sixth Annual Care for Kids Awards Gala.

The 1199 SEIU Child Care Corporation provides educational programs that support children from infancy through adolescence. The annual Care for Kids Awards Gala recognizes leaders who have made the well-being of children and families a priority. The Gala will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2012. After-school Program at PS/MS 279 Thanksgiving Soup Kitchen Students and staff from our After-school Program at PS/MS 279, with help from our other Youth Development programs, turned their cafeteria into a soup kitchen to serve an early Thanksgiving dinner to community members in need.
