Site Coordinator for Drop Out Prevention Program at W.C. Bryant High School (Queens, NY)

Description:

The Coordinator at W.C. Bryant High School will be responsible for coordinating CHCF’s drop-out prevention program at a high school in Queens for a cohort of 67 adolescents in 9 th through 12 th grade. The Coordinator provides supervision and oversight of the program, individual and group counseling services to students, planning and coordination of special events and activities, and will supervise the family counselor whose primary responsibility is to conduct outreach and engage families in innovative and creative ways. The coordinator must plan and create incentives for students and their families that promote and enhance their academic experience and ultimately improve attendance. The ideal candidate will be flexible, goal-oriented, open-minded, creative, and willing to go the extra mile to improve the lives and education of the children and youth we serve. He/she must be dedicated to working with underserved communities, and have experience working in public schools with high school students.

Job Responsibilities :
  • Monitoring student attendance for cohort of 67
  • Provide individual counseling
  • Coordinate and facilitate group counseling
  • Address student and parent needs by coordinating and facilitating workshops on relevant topics in accordance with parent interests and identified needs
  • Provide direction to and work in collaboration with the Parent Counselor and other key school staff to outreach to families of students in need of intervention
  • Assist in the development, coordination and implementation of parent outreach activities such as workshops, fairs, and other events
  • Coordinate programs that may include: community service, enrichment activities such as trips to cultural events and places, and/or recreational activities
  • Provide referrals when appropriate
  • Maintain updated student records including intakes, assessments, anecdotal logs, grades, and school attendance
  • Develop and implement special projects, workshops and events that engage students and parents
  • Attend meetings at CHCF, Department of Education, Bryant High School, and the United Way
  • Other duties as assigned
Eligibility Requirements:
  • BA degree in counseling, psychology, human services or social work required
  • Experience counseling children or youth highly preferred
  • Experience working in NYC public schools highly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required
  • Bilingual – Spanish/English required
  • Must have ability to manage time, be highly organized and prioritize tasks.
  • Committed to mission of agency
