Site Coordinator for After-school Program at P.S 333/335 (Bronx, NY) - Temporary/Consultant
Available immediately, through July 31, 2008
Hours – 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
Description:
The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families (CHCF) is looking for a temporary Site Coordinator for its after-school program at PS 333/335. The ideal candidate will be sensitive, flexible, goal-oriented, open-minded, and creative. He/she must be dedicated to working with the Latino community, and have experience working in public schools.
CHCF is looking for someone who is able to navigate numerous systems, including the New York State Department of Education, PS 333/335 school administration, the schools’ parent associations, as well as the program’s funding sources and the agency itself.
The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience and be fully bilingual in Spanish and English. The after-school program has an emphasis on academics, but with arts and culture components including visual and performing arts, cultural dance, and photography.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise 160 children enrolled in the after school program ranging from first through fifth grades
- Supervise between 15-20 part time program staff
- Recruit, interview and hire staff and consultants
- Develop a schedule for activities for each grade level
- Provide crisis intervention when necessary
- Work closely with school staff to develop a program curriculum that reflects and complements the school day curriculum
- Implement and modify components to the program as needed
- Assist in development of and adherence to program budget throughout the year
- Purchase materials and equipments as needed
- Recruit and motivate parents to volunteer/work for the program
- Provide staff development workshops according to staff expertise
- Attend meetings as mandated by the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, The Department of Education of New York City (DOE), and PS 333/335
- Maintain communication with school support staff and agency staff
- Complete all mandated reports and maintain and update all school records
- Recruit and register students for program
Qualifications required:
- BA degree in education required (Masters degree preferred)
- Previous experience directing an after-school program strongly preferred
- Experience in and committed to working with children and families
- Supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Experience implementing programs preferred
- Familiarity with the creation of and adherence to budgets strongly preferred
- Bilingual – Spanish/English highly preferred
- Creative, organized, flexible, good with kids, a good sense of humor, can wear many hats, and capable of multi-tasking
- Experience working in a New York City public schools strongly preferred
- Excellent written and verbal skills required
