The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc. (CHCF) Disclaimer |
Statement Regarding Arizona The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc. expresses its outrage over the harsh, offensive and inhumane Arizona immigration legislation, SB 1070, signed by Governor Jan Brewer. The immediate effect of enforcing this overreaching law is legitimization of discriminatory practices, such as routine/systematic racial and ethnic profiling, particularly of Latinos, delaying the efforts and defeating a truly comprehensive immigration reform, criminalizing immigrants, regardless of their legal status in the United States, and inciting violence against Latinos. It should be noted that the United States is a country of immigrants and Latinos, the fastest growing population in the country, have made valuable contributions into the economy, arts and many other fields. We expect that New York legislators at state and federal level voice their opposition to this legislation, support a comprehensive and humane immigration reform that would, once and for all, change what is now a broken system causing pain, separation of families and terror in our communities. |
